What I Offer
I have an interesting combination of degrees. I graduated with honors from the University of Missouri with a marketing degree, and then earned my Master’s of Fine Arts in Acting from Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts. I am now a New York-based, working actor, an actor who loves the craft and considers himself an artist but who also understands that it is called show “business” for a reason
For the past 10 years I have also been a teacher, working at Rutgers University, New York Film Acadamy, The Summer Theater Institute and other training programs around the country. I have coached in a variety of areas, including audition technique, scene study, the business of the business, and preparing for a role.
I currently also help actors put themselves on tape through www.viewmytake.com, and I help actors create websites through www.redmuttdesigns.com.
If you are interested in any of my services, please don't hesitate to CONTACT me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Testimonials
"Josh was inspiring from the first day I met him. I took two semesters of acting with him because, after the first, I was compelled to hear, see and learn more. Too often we build up walls and try to block ourselves from feeling things that may be tough. Josh's heart is so open it made me see the value of vulnerability and the courage it takes to strip your gaurds down, as only the best actors can do. I will never forget how moved I was by his intensity, dedication and passion for sharing his talent. He was such a wonderful teacher because his love for the art is so strong and his talent is humbling. I would, and have, recommended him to anyone looking to open their hearts and free themselevs from the limiting nature of growing up. He was one of my very best decisions in college and I hope he continues to touch kindred spirirts everywhere." Melissa Psaroudis
“Besides possessing an exceptional understanding of the principles of acting, Josh understands people. It is this that separates him from other teachers. By grasping who you are he is able to help bring out the best performance possible. You won't find a better teacher and mentor.” Michael Greene
“Josh brings professionalism, passion and knowledge to the acting studio, which gives his students the ability to relinquish defenses and give him total trust in the classroom. Under his instruction, I removed the superficial facade that I once thought to be acting technique, and instead used personal experience to become more connected with characters and more successful in my pursuit of acting. His instruction has also been a guidance outside of the studio, as I was more confident and connected with myself when I left his class. Josh has an incredible ability to share his experience and passion with his students that molds them into professional actors while maintaining their individuality and spirit. I wholeheartedly recommend Josh Clayton as a coach to any actor, experienced or not.” Laurie Valora
“Josh really helped "demystify" what is acting. Sometimes acting training can get very abstract, however, Josh teaches the techniques, but breaks it down into tools that are easy to grasp. He understands that your process is your process and is not afraid to throw the book out the window, if there is something that is not working for the student, he will use a different approach to get you to the same place. He's not just a smart teacher, he's also a smart actor himself. He gets the craft! You won't be wasting your time.” Nicole Schram
“Under the guidance of Josh, you’ll quickly find that you’re in a safe environment and there is no harm in approaching the craft. There’s a comfort in knowing that risks are allowed. And besides feeling relaxed because Josh is so welcoming, you will also feel so enlightened with all the knowledge he has to impart. The guy is brilliant.” Katherine Homa
